Belated birthday wishes to you, Scott!!! I truly hope you enjoyed your day! I love love love my birthday and I think that's because I was never celebrated as a child so I CHOOSE to celebrate me as an adult. I love the attention, the outpouring of love, getting together with friends, the birthday cards, texts, emails, messages. I love it all so much. (Plus, I am a single woman with no kids so there's no Mother's Day celebrations for me, no anniversary celebations...)
Now, let's talk about JOY! I started a JOY journal in 2022 (actually, it's a LOVE and JOY journal), where I document the experiences that bring me joy, and that journal has pulled me out of some dark places!! See, it's not just reflecting on the joy and documenting it, it's going back later, when I am feeling depressed or anxiety has descended upon me, that I get the absolute most benefit!! Reading about a day that has brought joy to me in the past has the potential to light up my present moment, and I love that so much.
Documenting my joy has also helped me determine what BRINGS ME JOY, and lately, that's been making connections with people. Love-filled, heart-to-heart, one-on-one connections with people. But a perfectly ripe pear can bring me so much joy that it flows out of my eyes in the form of tears! As can getting out on my iSUP board, taking a road trip, reading a great book, and or going for a swim on my favourite lake. Flowers bring me SO MUCH JOY (and I deprived myself of them for years!) and my photography brings me joy. Dogs, nature, freedom, hotel stays, yoga, gifting/giving, and good beer with friends brings me JOY!
I am grateful that I am able to recognize what brings me joy, and that I am able to cultivate joy into my life.
Thanks for asking! And thank you for sharing your joy with us.
